Flashmeeting

We are going to use a Flashmeeting tool for carrying out our videoconference. The Flashmeeting Project includes an application based on the Adobe Flash 'plug in' and Flash Media Server. Running in a standard web browser window, it allows a dispersed group of people to meet from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. Typically a meeting is pre-booked by a registered user and a url, containing a unique password for the meeting, is returned by the server. The 'booker' passes this on to the people they wish to participate, who simply click on the link to enter into the meeting at the arranged time. During the meeting one person speaks (i.e. broadcasts) at a time. Other people can simultaneously contribute using text chat, the whiteboard, or emoticons etc. while waiting for their turn to speak. This way the meeting is ordered, controlled and easy to follow. A replay of the meeting is instantly available, to those with the 'unique' replay url. (http://fm.ea-tel.eu/about.html)

In order to participate you have to click on the link provided and write down your name.

For participating headsets and a microphone are required, but it is also recommended to use a webcam. You can also use a built-in microphone and simple earphones.

Just in case here are some steps if this Flashmeeting tool doesn’t seem very intuitive for you:

  • Click on the link provided
  • Click on “go to the meeting”
  • Choose “enter meeting as a guest” and click on “continue”. In this page you can also test your equipment (camera, headsets, microphone). In order to do that click on “open test application” and follow the instructions.
  • If you skip application testing just write down your name in the box, make a tick in the box “I agree to the terms” and click “enter”.

Flashmeeting allows to speak one person at a time. In order to say something you have to click on “start broadcasting” and after you have finished you should click on “stop broadcasting”. There is also an option for text-based chatting.

The meetings will be recorded and everybody can see the recordinga as soon as the meeting is over by clicking on the same link provided for the meeting. Thus, those who can’t attend can also watch the recordings.

Piratepad

Piratepad is a web-based collaboration tool. It works like a simple tex-editing program. The text written by the participants is synchronized as they type, so that everyone viewing this page sees the same text. This allows to collaborate seamlessly on documents! Every participant gets his/her own colour for separating the author of the text. Piratepat has also a chat section in which content related discussions can take place.

Edufeedr

EduFeedr is a feed reader for online courses where each participant is using his/her personal blog to publish thoughts on course readings, answers to assignments and other course related posts. It is expected that the facilitator will post assignments in the course blog. Course assignments must be also specified in EduFeedr. In the Assignments section you must specify the blog post in the course blog that contains the assignment. You must also add a deadline for the assignments.

The participants should also add a link to the assignment in the course blog when they submit the answer in their own blog.

In order to enroll to the course students do not need user accounts in EduFeedr. When a facilitator has created the course, anybody can enroll to the course. In order to enroll to the course you must have a blog in the supported blogging platform.
