Wikiversity:Candidates for Custodianship

Instructions

edit

Please add your request for custodianship (or other staff positions) below. Include a short summary of why you think you should be given the privileges and please refer to your involvement in other Wikimedia projects. If you have sysop/bureaucrat status at a sister project, please indicate so as well.

In a wiki, trust arises from good editing of pages and "good editing" is what advances the project. If you have a record of good editing then you are likely to be trusted and be granted the tools to protect pages from vandalism and block vandals and delete useless pages. Having those tools really just means you have to do more work -dull and boring work- for the community.

If you want to do administration work for your language version, please request Test wiki custodians. For translaton adminship, make the subpage format the same. And specify that you are requesting a translation admin.

All candidates should please place their requests or nominations on a subpage and transclude it here.

Requests for Custodianship

edit

Hi. I'm requesting temporary 3-month custodianship to help with the badly needed cleanup of the project, especially the Ukrainian test wiki, as can be seen here. I plan to investigate all test wikis on this and I need the rights to perform the necessary actions. Of course, I'm willing to be held accountable for this undertaking.

@Crochet.david: this is the request we agreed on on your talk page at fr.wikiversity.

  Done for 3 months Crochet.david (talk) 11:12, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just for the record, I’m noting that there seems to have been a misunderstanding regarding the test wiki custodianship granted to the user, as they may not have requested that right. It looks like they were given test-custodianship for the Ukrainian language project, but I’m wondering if this was actually meant to be temporary custodianship. This caused some confusion, as outlined here: User talk:AtUkr#Test wiki custodian ?. Is this the proper use of the bureaucrat tool followed by the test-sysop tool in this context? Thank you. -- (talk) 08:04, 27 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@ꠢꠣꠍꠘ ꠞꠣꠎꠣ: I did request a general custodianship, not a test wiki custodianship. But I became aware of the issue only when you notified me. I ping'd Crochet.david on the talk page and he didn't respond, so I concluded this was deliberate and the bureaucrat consciously limited my remit to the UK test project. My cleanup of UK was done at that point, so there was nothing left for me to do. As I said on my talk page, I'm fully willing to bear responsibility for the (few) instances where I overstepped my bounds as a test wiki custodian.
As a matter of fact, I actually requested custodianship to investigate all test wikis, not just UK. In particular, VI and BLK seem to be filled with low-quality content (see here). But since I evidently was prevented from interfering with other test projects, I dropped the matter and let my permissions expire. Hope this helps. AtUkr (talk) 15:21, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have previously served as a Test Wiki Custodian (test-sysop temporary) and currently serving as Test Wiki Custodian (test-sysop) on this platform, and I am currently serving as an Administrator (sysop) on Multilingual Wikisource, as well as Test Wiki Administrator (test-sysops) across multiple projects in the Incubator:Test-administrators. I am a regular contributor on this platform.

I am requesting sysop rights (Custodianship) as per the discussion on m:Talk:Language committee#Beta Wikiversity: Challenges we face incubating on a dead platform. Local Custodians (sysops/administrators) have been unresponsive, and the majority of Beta Wikiversity Custodians (sysops/administrators) are inactive. I have observed a lack of action throughout the year, with even "Author Deletion Requests" left unanswered for days. My own request from last year remains unresolved.

As I am consistently available on this platform for prompt responses, I am requesting sysop rights to help ensure Beta Wikiversity runs smoothly. -- (talk) 11:45, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry I did not respond to your request right away, but I cannot support custodianship here because it is unclear to me what you are trying to do. It's also the same in that you've just recently received the admin bit from mulws. This is where the global sysops can use their rights, so you could ask them if you need to, or you could post on the talkpage of other custodians, but I haven't found anything like that. However, there may be some areas where it's appropriate to do it yourself to the extent you need to. If you need temporary custodianship, I can agree to custodianship for 3-6 months if you agree, as there is no custodianship restriction policy here unlike other places. --Sotiale (talk) 04:34, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The requests on Template talk:Main page have not been clear since November 2023. I am actively maintaining this platform as a Test wiki custodian. I have applied based on the discussion m:Talk:Language committee#Beta Wikiversity: Challenges we face incubating on a dead platform. Earlier I have started a discussion Wikiversity talk:Custodians#Custodians and general maintenance. I have also requested a global lock for User:Payaldurge2, and reverted vandalism. But I cannot edit Template talk:Main page, as pages that are protected and can only be edited by sysops have not been updated. Most sysops are not active (Special:Contributions/User:Kanjy/Special:Log/User:Kanjy), (Special:Contributions/User:Samuele2002/Special:Log/User:Samuele2002), (Special:Contributions/User:Encore007/Special:Log/User:Encore007). I don't mind 3-6 months or any duration based on the platform's norm. -- (talk) 10:51, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Since your test custodianship must remain in effect even after your custodianship expires, it is renewed for another year. Alternatively, you can reapply for an extension of custodianship. --Sotiale (talk) 12:13, 28 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
