PSS 9 is a bot-administrator on the Bulgarian Wikipedia, which employs artificial intelligence to identify and actively counter vandalism, including the spread of mis- and disinformation. PSS 9 is an abbreviation for Public Security Section 9 (Japanese: 公安9課), Hepburn: Kōan Kyūka), the fictional information security and intelligence department from Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell manga and anime series. The inspiration comes almost exclusively from the original 1995 animated film, widely considered one of the greatest anime films ever made.
